Meals and Snacks

Children are very active and grow extremely quickly so they need a diet that provides adequate amounts of calories and nutrients in the right combination.

At Acorn Nursery we follow Government Nutritional guidelines as recommended by the Department of Health for food, nutrition, play and physical activity for children in early years childcare, “Eat Better, Start Better.”

All meals are freshly prepared and cooked daily on the premises by our own qualified chef. We provide a healthy well balanced menu taking into account any specialist diets or requirements.  Fresh fruit and vegetables are used as often as possible to ensure the adequate daily intake of vitamins and minerals. Additives and preservatives are avoided as well as the use of beef.

Meal times are a happy occasion at nursery; members of staff actively encourage children in conversation and tasting of new food. Children sit at tables in their own rooms and have their own place-mats .Social skills are promoted and children are helped to use cutlery and develop table manners.  Eating together with other children encourages them to taste and enjoy food they may not normally eat at home.

Meals included with a morning session are breakfast and lunch.

Meals included with an afternoon session are afternoon snack and tea.

All meals and snacks are included with all day sessions.
