Our Topic

Our topic this month is Around the World. The children will be participating in various activities over the month.

Celebrations/Special Events

Halloween – To celebrate Halloween we will be having a tea party on Thursday 27th and Monday 31st October, children are welcome to come into nursery in fancy dress. If your child doesn’t currently attend for these sessions it may be possible to book an extra session subject to availability.

We are thinking of ways to raise money for Children in Need in November and will keep you informed of any details.

New Setting

We are pleased to inform everyone that we are expanding and as of the 1st November we will be running another Pre-School and Out of School Club setting near to Holmes Chapel. If you would like to know any more information please speak to a member of the management team.

New Menus

Nicky is redoing our menus and we would like our children, parents and staff to help us. There will be an ideas box in the hallway if you would like to share any favourite meals or family recipes.

Staff changes

We would like to welcome Anna Birtles to our Acorn team, who has started at nursery.

We would also like to congratulate Tasha Hickson and Holly Rowlinson on their promotions to Senior Nursery Nurse.

School Admissions

The school admission is now open for children starting school in September 2017. If your child was born between 1st September 2012 and 31st August 2013, you need to apply for a school place before 15th January 2017.

You can apply either: Online at www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk/admissions or by telephoning the Authority on 0300 123 7039 to request a ‘Starting School 2017-18’ booklet.

Please speak to a member of the management team if you require any further information.

Colder Weather

As the weather is turning colder please could you provide your children with coats, hats and wellies, all with names in. Thank you!

Babies and First Steps

This month we are going to be celebrating Halloween by making pumpkin pictures and spider hand print pictures.

We are also going to have lots of messy play such as noodle play, rice crispy play and jelly play.

Our colour of the month is: green.


The story of the month is going to be ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’. We will be going around the garden looking for bears and making caves with different resources. We will also be making different breads and honey.

For Halloween we will be doing lots of different crafts and activities throughout the month.

Our colour of the month is: orange

Big Room

Throughout October we are going to be looking at different countries each day. There will be a craft which will tie in to help the children understand about the world we live in.

Pirate Pete is in big room waiting to go on his next adventure. If you have any special events or holidays, please feel free to take him with you.

With the different range of crafts and activities, please can I remind parents to bring a bag with spare clothes and appropriate clothing due to the weather changing.


Please could we remind parents to bring in family photos for our display, PE kits and if possible to fill in the newsflash book with your brilliant adventures so that we can share them at circle time with each other.

This month we are going to be starting our phonics small group activities as well as our funky fingers to help build up our muscles to enable the correct pen grip.

We are also going to be doing lots of nature walks around the garden to see what we can find for our new crafts, now that it’s Autumn.

If anyone would like to take home Dave the dog as he loves going on new adventures, please speak to Immy.
